May 13 is the Full Moon 🌝.
The full moon at this time of year is beautifully known as the “Flower Moon” 🌸.

This name originates from Indigenous peoples and agricultural communities in English-speaking regions who gave special names to the full moons of each month to help track the timing of hunting and farming. Since May is the season when flowers are in full bloom across the fields and hills, the full moon in this month came to be known as the Flower Moon 🌼.

These kinds of full moon names have been used in the United States and other countries for centuries, but they only began to gain popularity in Japan around 2010. The exact reason isn’t clear, but it’s believed that social media and the influence of mass media played a role in spreading the custom. Today, more and more people enjoy assigning and sharing names for each month’s full moon 📱🌕.

By the way, other months also have seasonally inspired names for their full moons, such as the “Strawberry Moon” (June) and the “Harvest Moon” (September) 🍓🌾.

On the next full moon night, why not look up at the moon bearing the name of flowers, and take a moment to connect with the rhythm of nature? 🌙✨
